A man had just sat down and ordered his meal at a restaurant in Katara, India, when something caught his eye.
He couldn’t help but notice a little boy peering through the window and staring at the delicious meals being served to the patrons. The boy’s wide eyes were fixated on each and every plate that passed by—he was obviously very hungry.
He invited the boy and his sister to come dine with him.
The man, Akhilesh Kumar, gestured to the boy to come inside. Seconds later, in scampered two little children through the restaurant doors and directly to Kumar’s table. The boy was shadowed closely by his little sister.
Kumar asked the children what they would like to eat, and the boy pointed at his plate. So, Kumar ordered two more of the same meal he had ordered for himself—one for the boy and one for his sister.
As they waited for the meals to arrive at the table, the boy was beside himself with anticipation. When the waiter finally delivered the food, the little boy could hardly contain himself.
But as he reached for the food to take his first bite, his little sister grabbed his hand, telling him to go wash his hands first. So off the two of them went to wash their hands.
When the two returned, they sat at the table with Kumar and enjoyed their gifted meal in record time.
However, they had finished and gotten up and left before Kumar had even started his meal! But the man was not very hungry anymore. After witnessing the two hungry children devour their meal, he was full—not of food, but of satisfaction.
Afterward, he slowly finished his own meal and asked for the bill. When he got back to the table, he was stunned to read what had been written on it.
The check arrived with a shocking message.
There was no amount due. Kumar could not contain his emotions and tears filled his eyes. The message, translated into English, said:
“We don’t have a machine that can bill humanity. May good happen to you.”
That, my friends, is how karma works.
