It’s not a scene you see often in modern day America, but it sure does take you back to the good old days of the wild west. A cowboy served up justice the old-fashioned way when he heard a woman screaming in a Walmart parking lot.
Robert Borba showed that chivalry is not dead, but well and alive in Eagle Point, Oregon, on a day that started like any other.
The 28-year-old cowboy was on his way home from Walmart by horseback when he heard a woman screaming “Stop him! Stop him! He stole my bike! He stole my bike!”
Just as he turned his head to look around, a masked man went whizzing past him on a bicycle right there in the Walmart parking lot.
The cowboy didn’t waste any time. Armed with nothing but a rope, he saddled up and saved the day. Borba chased the thief, threw his lasso, and caught him right there in broad daylight.
“Couple swings then I threw it at him, just like I would a steer.”
For Borba, it was easy. He works at a ranch outside of Eagle Point, Oregon and this is nothing out of the ordinary, except for the hero part. The cowboy tied the perpetrator to a tree and called the police.
The rope landed perfectly around the thief’s ankle.
When Officer Chris Adams arrived on the scene moments later, he couldn’t believe what he saw. Borba joked with Officer Adams and offered a humble suggestion.
“I told the cop I said, ‘Man maybe you guys ought to pick up a rope and throw that gun away. You might have better luck with it.”
“I’d take him by my side any day,” said Officer Adams.
Such courage and bravery can be hard to come by, so it’s refreshing when a goodhearted, modest, rope-wielding cowboy saves the day.
Just what made this hero take action? The father of four said he “thought it was the right thing to do,” and, “If it was my wife or my little girl, I’d hope somebody would help her if I wasn’t around.”
All the cowboy asked for in return was his rope back.
