A traditional gift for a couple’s 10th wedding anniversary is either tin or aluminum, but this couple had a very different idea. To celebrate their anniversary Danielle and Steve VanHorn dressed up in their best 1980s style garb and took the most amazing 80s-themed photoshoot!
Danielle VanHorn, who married her high school sweetheart and now has three children with him, first came up with the idea of doing a photoshoot for their anniversary, but it was Steve who suggested the 80s theme.
The idea came to him after looking at countless throwback photos on Facebook. Plus, ever since the couple’s first vacation together in 2003, they have made it a tradition to take silly old Western style photos together.
“So we thought, why not do a throwback session?” he told Buzzfeed.
The couple went to a local thrift shop to purchase the appropriate clothing.
Steve even grew a mustache for the special occasion and he said that his wife’s “naturally big hair definitely played well with the theme.”
“When they walked in the door in their first outfit, I lost it,” Vanessa Hoffamann, the photographer for the VanHorn’s 80s themed shoot, told HuffPost.
The photoshoot lasted about 45 minutes, but it was interrupted numerous times as the participants could barely keep a straight face.
The VanHorns took some of their photos outside, which understandably drew a lot of attention.
A neighbor mowing his lawn next door couldn’t help but peek into their yard a few times as Danielle and Steve posed in their 1980s attire.
“We were laying in the front yard and neighbors were driving by really slow looking at us like, ‘Are these guys for real?’” Steve told ABC News.
Weeks later, the couple says they’re still the talk of the town.
As for what they plan on doing to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, that’s still up in the air. We would almost bet money that it won’t involve the traditional gift of platinum for a 20th anniversary!
“We’ve got nine and three-quarters years to plan, so we’re going to do something big for sure,” Steve said to ABC News.
